SRS/Outdoorsmans Rifle Adapter Plate: Direct tripod mounting plates that are bipod-compatible
Over the last few years, rifle stock adapters have become a growing market of innovative ways to attach a rifle directly to a tripod without a bulky clamp system. While the rifle clamps have their place for lightweight rifles and shotguns lacking mounting hardware, new-age rifles are beginning to offer modern features like a rifle adapter plate.
Outdoorsmans has teamed up with Salmon River Solutions to offer SRS/Outdoorsmans rifle adapters that attach to the forend of your rifle stock. These attach via the two front sling stud holes found on most modern rifle stocks from companies like McMillan, Manners, ADG, and Inner Mountain Rifle Stocks. With common Picatinny rails and newer Arca-Swiss rails, these new plates offer a wide variety of attachment styles to suit your tripod head and rifle capabilities.
With several different design options, I found the SRS Outdoorsmans Picatinny Rifle Adapter Plate to be very much at home on my lightweight hunting rifles. This one adapter allows me to mount a bipod to the front Pic rail section while mounting the rifle stock directly to the head of my Outdoorsmans tripod for work above the prone position.
This forward mounting on the tripod, I feel, allows for more control of the rifle and gives me better recoil management compared to a rifle clamped or even clipped in a more centerline position to the rifle's front action screw. I am testing this more on several rifles to establish a better conclusion on the subject. Stay tuned.
I recently used the SRS/Outdoorsmans Picatinny rifle adapter plate to set up my custom rifle chambered in 22 Creedmoor on a bedded herd of javelina. After setting my nephew Anthony up behind the rifle, our plan went into effect and the system allowed for him to take his javelina from a seated position. Then I transitioned to a kneeling position behind the rifle and was able to take my javelina quickly before the herd dispersed.
Between Anthony’s shot and mine, my father Jim was able to punch his tag by taking a shot off the top of his Outdoorsmans pack frame. That’s three shots, three pigs using Outdoorsmans rifle support products with less than one minute between the first shot and the last.
