MTN Gear Mountain Bipod
A while back, I received a message from Matt at MTNgear asking if id be interested in testing out one of his Mountain Bipods. Strangely enough, I had been eyeballing his products and the timing was perfect. I received the bipod a few weeks later and had it mounted on a rifle in minutes, testing all the adjustments in cant, leg extensions, and angle. The quick-detach mount allows the bipod to slide over your Picatinny rail mount on your rifle stock forend with the press of a detent button. When in place, release the button and the bipod is locked in place. It’s a super simple and lightweight mounting system. For 5 oz, the bipod was surprisingly sturdy and stable. Most importantly, it's quiet – no clicks, snaps, pops, creaks, or other unnatural, metallic sounds found on the majority of modern bipods.
I hunted this fall with the bipod mounted on a Q Fix chambered in 6.5 CM and a PROOF Research Glacier TI chambered in 7 PRC. Both are 6-lb rifles, so adding a heavy bipod throws off the balance of the gun in carry. The Mountain Bipod balanced very well on both rifles and offered ultra-fast deployment on every hunt. The carbon fiber legs pull down into position and the leg height can be adjusted by twisting the collar on the main leg. This allows the leg to extend from 8” to 15”. With the adjustable leg positions, you can get the bipod from 4” to 16” off the ground. That’s a lot more adjustability than the standard Harris bipod, the most prevalent bipod I see on hunting rifles.
After a fall of hunting with the Mountain Bipod, I can say it is the most versatile, lightweight, and stable hunting bipod I have found to date. I was able to make several shots on game in a variety of positions under quick shot opportunities. The adjustable legs were clutch, for nearly every shot took place on broken, uneven terrain on a hillside that required more height and adjustment than 90% of bipods on the market could offer. I can’t say enough good things about the MNT Gear Mountain Bipod. Check out the MTN Gear Mountain Bipod for yourself at mntgear.us. Ditch your old, heavy, spring-loaded bipod and step up to the next level of mountain hunting bipods. Your rifle will thank you, and I would wager you’ll have greater opportunities next fall with the Mountain Bipod on your rifle.
