Gear Highlight: Caribou Gear Hunters Tarp
It doesn’t happen often, but once in a while, I stumble upon a piece of gear I didn’t know I needed. A while back, while talking to Ted from Caribou Gear, he mentioned something about their Hunters Tarp.
After our conversation, I remembered that I had actually picked one of these up and had never used it. So, I went and dug it out, and I can honestly say I am very excited about this new find.
The Hunters Tarp measures 5’ x 4’ with ties on the corners and comes with four ground stakes. The whole setup, including the tarp, stakes, and stuff sack weighs a mere 5.6 ounces, yet serves so many purposes. While quartering and deboning game, I often struggle to keep the meat clean, especially when solo.
With the Caribou Gear Hunters Tarp, I can stake out a nice, clean place to rest quarters and meat while working. Then, I can put it in my pack to keep the inside of my pack clean while packing meat.
The Tarp is also completely waterproof, so it can be used as a shelter in an unexpected storm or for shade on hunts when you need to get out of the sun. The tarp can be propped up by trekking poles or just strung up between trees. This little tarp has so many uses and takes up very little room in your pack.
