Argali Kodiak Belt Gear Highlight

I’ve said it before, but I love gear that serves multiple purposes. So, as you could imagine, I was excited when I saw the Kodiak Belt from Argali. This belt not only serves the purpose of a low-profile belt that keeps your britches up but also as a field sharpener, capable of honing and sharpening your knives.

The front of the belt looks like a normal buckle with the cool Argali logo etched in it. However, the back of the buckle is an 800-grit diamond plate, capable of sharpening any knife or broadhead. I have found this plate to easily bring back the edge to my knife as long as I am careful to watch my blade angle while working it over.

The top of the buckle has a tungsten carbide sharpening bar that I have found is perfect for quick touch-ups. If you do this consistently while using the knife, before your edge is dull, you can keep a blade sharp for a long time.

The side of the webbing has a leather strop attached to it that helps your knife have a razor-sharp finish at the end of the sharpening process. I had never used a strop until a couple of years ago. After seeing the benefits of it, I couldn’t imagine not using one, and this belt makes it easy.

Lastly, there is a fish-hook-sharpening groove in the diamond plate. Although I have never personally sharpened a fish hook, I suppose this would come in handy in a true survival situation.

The iron grip webbing capture system is easy to use and keeps the sharpening surfaces from digging into your skin. For more info on the belt and its uses visit argalioutdoors.com
