Vortex Strike Eagle FFP 1-10x24
The new Strike Eagle 1-10x24 is specifically designed for AR platform rifles. But you don’t own an AR-15, you say? Well…you should. A solidly built AR is arguably the most useful rifle you will ever own. Modern builds combined with the high-quality ammunition available make an AR a superb choice for predator hunting inside 400-500 yards. They are low-recoil, and with a telescoping stock, the whole family can enjoy shooting with relatively inexpensive ammunition. Unless you are extremely efficient with a handgun, an AR might be the most effective option for home and camp defense.

Considering the Strike Eagle 1-10x24 as an “AR only” scope is underestimating the advantages of this scope and others in this magnification range. If you are building a light-weight mountain rifle or considering some of the new short action cartridges like the 22 or 6mm ARC, a 1-10x scope would be an excellent choice.
Vortex has multiple “families” of riflescopes, starting with the least expensive Crossfire all the way up to the stellar Razor HD Gen III, covering price points from $100 to $4000. The universal truth in the optics world is “you get what you pay for.” The higher the price, the better the quality. But there are diminishing returns the higher you get. A $300 scope might be twice as good as a $150 scope, but rarely does a $2000 model offer twice the value of a $1000 model. In my opinion, this is the case with the Strike Eagle line. At $699, the 1-10x24 delivers quality well above its weight class.
You have your choice between MRAD or MOA BDC reticles, whichever you are more comfortable with. While the MRAD has its advantages, I chose the MOA reticle because it is a little less busy, and the BDC marks line up well with the ammo I currently shoot. Conveniently, with a 200-yard zero, each down hash mark hits every hundred yards from 300 to 600. Given that the etched reticle is in the first focal plane, these hashmarks work regardless of the magnification. Once I change ammunition for predator hunting, I can dump my new load data in the Vortex GeoBallistic app and create a custom dope card for each load…simple as that!

At the end of the day, the Strike Eagle 1-10x24 proves that you don’t need to spend gobs of money to get a highly capable riflescope. It offers the versatility to handle everything from close-range defensive situations to longer-range predator hunting, all in a compact and durable package. Whether it’s mounted on an AR platform or a lightweight bolt gun, this scope delivers performance that exceeds expectations and makes a strong case for itself as one of the best values in today’s optics market. And, to top things off, it is covered by the famous Vortex lifetime warranty.
