Crispi Attiva Mid GTX Highlight

Early last year (2020) I got a pair of the then-new Crispi Attiva GTX trail running shoes. Within 20 miles, I liked them. Hundreds of miles later, I love them! It wasn’t long before I started thinking that I could do a few hunts in these shoes if only they had a little more ankle support. Without any encouragement from me, the designers at Crispi turned my daydreams into reality with the introduction of the Attiva Mid GTX.

From top to bottom, the Attiva mid is a purpose-built lightweight hunting/trail boot. The Vibram sole offers excellent dry and wet traction, even after hundreds of miles on Arizona rock. Just yesterday, this same sole on my low version handled a steep muddy trail here in upstate New York (working vacation). The Elastoflex EVA midsole is a perfect blend between stability and mobility; I have no doubt they will handle a heavy pack out. The full Gore-Tex coating (hence the GTX name) will keep all moisture out yet allow sweat to dissipate. The speed lacing system makes it easy to customize the lace tension. All of these features come in under 1 lb per boot. That is almost half the weight of a full-leather boot like my favorite Nevadas.

The Attiva Mid is not for every hunt, but they will be perfect for early elk hunts in the Southwest when I am day-hunting from a basecamp and on training hikes in the Arizona summer. There is a compromise in stability and longevity, but the reduced weight will be welcomed.
