Some of you may wonder why I would share so much information about my Colorado Unit 201 muzzleloader elk hunt, and here’s my take: It took over 20 years for me to draw this tag and I will never draw it again. It’s no secret that 201 is an awesome unit, and I don’t think that my info will negatively impact anyone. In fact, because it is such a limited tag I think it may help some other hunters fulfill their goals in the future. I believe in giving back to the hunting community, so if my story helps future hunters of Unit 201, or hunters in any other unit/state for that matter, that’s all the better! I will be relying on plenty of people to help me, so hopefully I can help others.

Just to give you an idea, here’s a list of some of the people who have already helped, even if it was just moral support:
Al Precourt, Bill Swanson, Brandie Buckley, Chris Denham, Cody Goff, Cody Nelson, Colby Kroff, Corey Jacobsen, Courtney Denham, Danny Clum, Daren Glover, Dean Capuano, Ellen Dana, Erik Swanson, Gary Summers, Heath Boy, Jason Gebhart, Jay Scott, Joel Harris, John Cochran, John Legnard, John Raftopolous, Kenton Carruth, Kristi Titus, Macky Morris, Matt Sheterom, Mattox Swanson, Michael Sisk, Nichole Swanson, Rick Messmer, Ryan Balch, Stan Grebe, Tom Clum, Tommy Clum, Tom Cox, and Westen Enstrom.

A few of the people above have also committed to help me during the hunt: Bill Swanson (dad), Erik Swanson (brother), Macky Morris (friend),Michael Sisk (friend), and Rick Messmer (friend).

There is no way this is going to be a DIY hunt; I’m going to get a ton of help!

Trent Swanson, a Colorado native, is the Mountain Territory Sales Rep for SWAROVSKI OPTIK. You might recognize his name since he used to work with us here at Western Hunter. Heis a self-professed “optics nerd” who has been chasing big game critters for nearly 30 years. You can find the rest of the blog posts about his Colorado elk hunt here.
